Grounding for Solar Farms: Unique Challenges and Solutions
December 5, 2023
Renewable Energy
Utility-scale solar farms present unique grounding challenges due to their large geographic footprint, distributed inverter topology, and the presence of DC and AC systems on the same site.
The rapid growth of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) installations has created new challenges for grounding system engineers. Unlike conventional power plants, which have a compact footprint and a relatively simple grounding topology, large solar farms can cover hundreds of acres and contain thousands of individual inverters, transformers, and combiner boxes.
